PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Mr. Schuricht is a practicing structural and civil design engineer and a
principal of the firm, bringing over forty years of engineering experience
to his clients. Being named as an expert witness in over two hundred cases to date,
he investigates and reports on structural distress, construction defects and
seismic analyses in appearances at depositions, mediations, arbitrations and
trials. Typical distress causes are fires, earthquakes, landslides, soil
settlement, water intrusion and faulty construction. His clients include
aerospace and insurance companies, school districts, government agencies,
property managers, Realtors, developers, investors, motion picture and
broadcasting studios and industrial specialty firms. The Associated Press, Los
Angeles Times, Daily Breeze and other media publications recognize John as an
expert, and rely on his analyses. Other Civil and Structural Engineer colleagues
also value John's
advice as a mentor.
During John's career as a consultant, the 1971 San Fernando, 1978 Whittier Narrows, 1979 Loma
Prieta, 1992 Big Bear and 1994 Northridge Earthquakes have provided him the
opportunity to inspect, write reports and design structural repairs for over
five thousand damaged homes, schools and other buildings. Numerous fires,
windstorms, landslides and soil subsidence cases also furnished ample challenge
for him to develop a broad range of experience in dealing with such varied kinds
of structural distress.
Prior to joining Palos Verdes Engineering, John headed the Structural
Engineering Department at South Bay Engineering Corporation for twelve years
from 1978 to 1990, and was a Senior Facilities Engineer at Hughes Aircraft
Company in El Segundo, CA from 1966 to 1978.
